Women meet together to study the Bible, for luncheons or to celebrate a holiday or special church event. These women's meetings might include biblical devotions that focus attention on the faith foundation for their lives and their group. Devotions revolve around those life issues that concern women, from family and finances to faith and the future.
Women share a concern for their relationships with friends and family members, their marriages and their children. Focus women's devotions on any one of these areas. For relationships, use 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a, going through the list of what love is---kind, not arrogant or rude---and apply this to how to treat family, friends, spouses and children. Ephesians 4:31-32, which deals with forgiveness, kindness and not growing bitter, can be the basis for a devotion about the marriage relationship. Ephesians 5 also speaks to the marriage relationship and includes verses about parenting children and giving them limits as well as love. To a devotion on children, add references from Proverbs 13:24 and Deuteronomy 6:6-7.
Finances are a critical concern for women whether single, married or with grown children. Devotions based on biblical principles help women understand how to incorporate these principles into their lives and families. Base a devotion on putting God first using Proverbs 3:9-10, explaining that a portion of everything made belongs first to God. If he is considered first, blessing will follow. Ecclesiastes 5:10 and Hebrews 13:5 can be used to deal with the issue of seeking wealth for its own sake instead of trusting God, who promises never to leave or forsake. Matthew 6:19-21 and Galatians 6:9 take the emphasis off self and help women focus on reaching out with finances and time to help others.
Faith is the foundation of life but it has wide application. Share the basics of faith with John 3:16-17, explaining that Jesus loves his creation so much that he came to earth, died on a cross as a sacrifice for sin and rose again to offer new life in him. Use Proverbs 3:5-6 as a basis for sharing a story of trusting God and finding him when the need was great. Using Psalm 91, share how under God's wings the women are loved, protected and comforted. A devotion of Psalm 23 gives a picture of the Good Shepherd's love and care, which can calm fears. A devotion using Deuteronomy 31:8 and 1 Peter 5:6-7 gives women the strength to fight discouragement and fear.
Women are concerned about the future. Devotion ideas deal with trusting God, living for him daily and sharing Christ with family and friends for a future in heaven with Jesus. Use Psalm 37:1-11 to give hope that those who trust God, live for him, do good and wait on him will inherit the earth. The verses from Jeremiah 29:11 and Romans 8:28 can be used with a devotion to assure women that God has a purpose and a plan, and that everything works together for good for those who follow him.
