In 1957, entertainer Danny Thomas established St. Jude Children's Research Hospital to advance the cure and prevention of the most aggressive types of pediatric cancer and other catastrophic diseases affecting children. No child is denied treatment on the basis of religion, race or a family's inability to pay. Approximately three-quarters of the funds needed to operate the hospital come from public contributions, with the remainder of its funding provided by grants and insurance. You can help support the hospital's mission.
Dedicate your birthday. Register for a birthday page on the hospital's website and personalize your page with photos and information about why you're dedicating your birthday to St. Jude. Provide email addresses to share your page with friends and family, then use the site to thank donors and track the progress of your birthday fundraising efforts. You can also dedicate your wedding and ask guests to donate in your name.
Make a monthly donation. If you give a minimum of $25 per month, you can arrange for the gift to be automatically deducted from your bank account or credit card. If you like, make your monthly gift in memory of a deceased person. A notification card will inform the person's family of your gift. You can also make a one-time donation.
Dedicate a brick on the St. Jude Hospital's campus pathway or add your name to one of the facility's recognition walls.
Give a gift of stocks or cash in St. Jude's annuity program. The hospital will pay you a lifetime annuity, which reverts to the hospital at the end of the contract. This is a way to provide a significant gift and help reduce your tax burden at the same time.
Start a fundraising campaign at work, then host contests, bake sales or other events to raise money. Let the hospital know about your plans because resources such as videos, posters, stickers and pledge cards are available.
Participate in a fundraising event in your area, as community organizations and civic groups often host races, cruise-ins, bike rides, math-a-thons and other events. You can also spearhead your own event. If you can't take part, you can sponsor a participant.
